I think this has the best pizza in midtown, bar none. I prefer to get slices of mushroom, but really anythign is good, and I eat here everytime I am in NY.

I ate there last week. Overpriced, bad food. Overpriced, bad wine. Rude waiters and they automatically add a tip to your bill! I'll decide whether they deserve a tip and how much. Do not eat here ever!

We went in for a pizza with pepperoni and garlic. It was delicious. We also ordered a pitcher of Yuengling beer which went well with our meal. I did order a side of meatballs -- pass. I am not a picky person, but the meatballs I would not recommend, not flavorful enough, too dry, and too salty. Sorry. However, I got back to California and have been craving John's of Bleecker for 11 months now! Pepperoni and garlic pizza was very good. : )

I don't get it. It's good, not great. Any of the Patsy's chain places in city are as good or better. Ditto for Al Forno and Tottonos on the UES. More hype then substance.

1) Waiters slow and rude. 2) We asked for OLIVES and got ONIONS. 3) The onions made the crust completely SOGGY and like glue. 4) We also asked for mushrooms, which were TINY SLIVERS, almost invisible and gave NO FLAVOR. 5) HORRIBLE WINE. 6) Music so LOUD we could not have a conversation without saying WHAT? 5 times. 7) One of the staff came and took one of our party's coats and threw it on a coat rack by the door. Didn't even ASK who it belonged to. When our older friend came back from the embarrassing bathroom, he completely freaked out, thinking it had been stolen. No one had seen the man take it. The reputation, and the line (which we blessedly missed) are AMAZING and WRONG. It seems that once people HEAR someplace is great, that's it. But this place SUCKS.

Hi all, I stumbled across this thread while looking for a nice pizza place to visit here in Sydney , Australia on the occasion of my daughters birthday. In February 2008 we were in NYC and heard so much about Johns of Bleecker St that we just had to give it a go. As mentioned previously we had to line up with all these excited customers from all over the US of A and abroad. A fun experience which left us in hungry anticipation of our upcoming pizza. Finally we were seated amid the rustic ambience of Johns trying to enjoy a very average Californian wine as we ordered from the menu. Can't remember what we ordered as the "pie" that came out was equally forgettable. Looking around, it seemed that everyone else thought that the "King was indeed wearing new clothes" In other words my friends, the food was crap, it was tasteless, overcooked and unfinishable. The pastry was dry, the toppings tired, the sauce invisible. I would expect a pizza like that in a third rate takeaway next to the Ingleburn Inn. If that is what you consider a great pizza, please do yourselves a favour and travel to Naples, Italy or Sydney, Australia to remind yourself of how good, real Italian cooking can be........oh, did I mention the coffee?..........

I forget if John's-Bleeker Street opens at 11 AM or at Noon, but if you are there when their doors open, you will not have to wait in line. Service will also be rapid for you. I love John's, hope you enjoyed a pizza there.

I don't care how good their food is but I will not go there again! There are 24 health violation points for L'asso, I can not believe they are still allowed to open. Violations for food not protected from potential source of contamination...and violations for ROACHES and MICE present in facility's food and/or non-food areas. That is so disgusting.

I was born in 1957 and grew up in Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights. We always went to Gino's. When I was barely a teenager we would play the beatles on the jukebox, have great pizza and the best baked clams. I live in California since the 70's and miss Gino's and the old Brooklyn. God Bless Gino's. I hope when I come visit next year, it will be just the same!

I am at a point, where I can look at a pizza and tell if I will like it. I never ate a pizza at Lombardi's because it did not look like it had what I like. Too much sauce, dominating a small amount of cheese. This place has not received much comment here, but I would rather dine at Pizza Box on Bleeker near MacDougal than at Lombardi's.
Anyone had a pizza at Pizza Box in the village? They have an outdoor cafe behind the restaurant.

#1!!!! This is the BEST pizza I've had - even after sampling in CT. I haven't tried Grimaldi's yet but plan to on my next NYC visit and will update all. I can guarantee that I'll be eating at John's again ..... and again .... Can never get enough of this one!

John's is nothing less than an excellent pizza. But not the best. It is not a DiFara's Pizza. I do not like Grimald's. It is the style that I do not like. Too much sauce, not enough cheese. Same for Lombardi's.

John's Pizza is a wonderful pizza. Of all the great pizza's, it is the only one I can eat whole large pie and not be full. Once I went there after eating three burgers as White Castle and still had no trouble eating a large pie.
