You will definitely wait for your slices here even in the middle of the week. But it is well worth the trip for a slice. The owner's hands are so caloused that he pulls the scalding hot pans out without mits or a pizza paddle. Far and above the best and most unique pizza experience in NYC. And I lived a block from Grimaldi's.

For me, his pizza is the winner for best tasting pizza. I am willing to pay an extra $5. for a pie. The taste is so unique and wonderful. As to L & B it is a great pizza, but falls short of the best. I have had pizzas in the 'neighborhood" that are as good as L & B.
I wish that other trusted family members could take part in the preparation. Some good management of the crowd could make the place more money. Even if one person is there to just handle the money or fold the boxes.

I understand that DiFara's may taste good.....but that's because you haven't had REALLY GOOD PIZZA in a long while. I quit DiFara's after I found a water bug in my lasagna. If you're looking for good pizza in Brooklyn, do yourselves a favor and go to L&B's Spumoni Gardens on 86th Street. They beat DiFara's HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!

hi all
my wife and i live literally right around the corner from difara pizzeria and while we absolutely loathe the hype that's made it impossible for us locals to get what should be normal service, we love the fact that you appreciate his pizza as much as we do. dom is a great chef and he and his family are a credit to this neighborhood and to this city. between this and the demarco's shooting two months ago, they have suffered enough. having said that, i've contacted the family and had two lengthy conversations with dom's daughter, margaret. as you can imagine, the whole family is distraught and all they can do now is wait for the court date on the june 14th. and so, in effort to stimulate community support, i am - with margaret's careful input - drawing an online petition, the purpose of which is to just stick to the facts and make the issue as apolitical as possible: http://www.petitiononline.com/difara07/petition.html this out-of-the-way joint has a rhythm all its own and thankfully it does. it's the best of everything new york city has to offer. so unless you want a ray bari or a sbarro in it's place - or what's worse, another bank! - i urge you to show your support. thanks for reading and say 'no' to a generic nyc!, bryan swirsky |

I grew up in the area and was going to Difara's way before most of the people commenting even knew where Ave J is. The pizza was the best 40 years ago, and it still is.
I just was there again yesterday (Jan 27), somewhat a birthday present to myself - Dom for sure is starting to slow down, but the pizza - bellisimo!! There is no better pizza on this planet!! |
